Lower Your Cholesterol Naturally

If your cholesterol is extremely high and your doctor feels you are at risk, he may put you on statins, a prescription drug to lower your overall cholesterol. But most people only continue these drugs for a year due to high cost and/or adverse side effects. There are ways that your cholesterol can be lowered, and you don't have to wait for a nudge from your doctor to do it. Learn a few simple ways to naturally lower your cholesterol here.

Add cholesterol-lowering foods to your diet. There are a number of foods created especially for people with high numbers, including butters, cooking oils, and macrobiotic yogurt shots. These can be expensive, so if you are on a budget you may want to add foods that are known to help. Oatmeal is a powerful tool in your fight against high cholesterol. Eat some every morning for the best results. Adding garlic to foods also helps lower your overall cholesterol, and heart-healthy fats like those found in olive oil can also do the trick. Everyday new foods are being discovered that help.

Take a supplement. Any supplement containing a significant amount of Omega-3 fatty acids like fish oil or flaxseed oil will do the trick. Other supplements based on food are popular, like garlic and cinnamon if you don't like the taste of these when added to your diet. Cinnamon is helpful for weight loss, too. Vitamins B-3 and B-5 are both great for lowering LDL and raising HDL. Some opt for B-3 (also called Niacin) in larger doses, which is only available by prescription. Guggulipid and Green Tea are plant-based extracts that are popular, as well as magnesium. Whichever supplement you choose, be sure to inform your doctor of any you are taking.

Eat right. Our diet is the largest contributor to cholesterol, so it's important to be conscious of what you consume. Experts recommend a Mediterranean style diet with unsaturated fats and plenty of fresh food. If you're having trouble with your weight, you might want to try some herbal diet pills that don't have the troublesome effects of chemically-based ones. Be sure to get plenty of exercise as well. A natural appetite suppressant such as hoodia may get you on the right track to eating appropriate portions and avoiding temptation.

Supplements For High Cholesterol - Overlooked Ways to Lower Cholesterol Levels

If you are familiar with the side effects of statin medication for reducing high cholesterol, then you know that it makes sense to find a natural method of lowering cholesterol levels. One method that can be extremely effective is using supplements for high cholesterol.

The market for cholesterol supplements is loaded with products that have amazing claims attached to them. To read some of these claims, you would think that a pill a day is all that would take to bring down your high cholesterol readings. Well, let's take a more realistic and balanced look at cholesterol lowering supplements.

Let me first state that the most effective way to bring down high cholesterol is through making certain changes in your diet. Reducing the amount of saturated fat consumption while at the same time increasing the amounts of vegetables and whole grains in your diet will in and of itself provide you with extremely good results.

However, combining those dietary changes with supplements that contain certain ingredients will greatly increase the rate of cholesterol reduction.

The most effective substance to look for in cholesterol supplements is plant sterols. Also known as phytosterols, they have been shown over and over again to effectively block the absorption of cholesterol into the bloodstream.

Another natural substance that works well in a supplement for lowering cholesterol is rice bran oil. For a long time and was believed that it was the bran itself that was the effective agent. This would make sense, given the fact that bran is high in fiber content.

However, recent studies have shown that it is the rice bran oil that provides most of the cholesterol lowering effect. This is probably due to the fact that rice bran oil contains the highest amounts of plant sterols of any of the natural plant-based oils.

You will also find gugulipid and policosanol listed as ingredients on many supplements for high cholesterol. Many studies have shown both of these to be effective cholesterol lowering agents. However, some of the more recent studies have brought their effectiveness into question.

The way I look at it is that as long as there is ongoing promising research regarding their effectiveness, it makes sense to include them as a part of an effective formula for cholesterol reduction.

Given the fact that many people experience severe side effects from statin medication, this type of natural approach to lowering high cholesterol levels is recommended, leaving medication as a last resort. I invite you to visit my website where I cover the best supplements for high cholesterol along with a thorough discussion of which foods and diets are most effective.

The Link Between Heart Disease & Cholesterol: Fact or Fallacy?

Heart disease is the number one killer in the world. One out of every two men and one out of every three women currently develop heart disease. The UK has one of the highest rates of death from heart disease in the world - one British adult dies from the disease every three minutes - and strokes are the country's third biggest killer, claiming 70,000 lives each year.

Heart disease is the common name given to a range of conditions, including:

Coronary artery disease (including heart attack) Abnormal heart rhythms or arrythmias Heart failure Heart valve disease Congenital heart disease Heart muscle disease (cardiomyopathy) Pericardial disease Aorta disease and Marfan syndrome Vascular disease (blood vessel disease)

Facts

Before 1920, Coronary Heart Disease (CHD) was rare in America, but by the mid fifties it was the leading cause of death among Americans (which corresponds with most Western Countries). So what had changed?

Whilst modern medicine would have us believe that this epidemic is the result of diets that are too high in cholesterol and saturated fat, here are some interesting facts that contradict that claim: between 1910 and 1970, animal fat consumption decreased from 83% to 62%; butter consumption decreased from 18 pounds to 4 pounds per year; and margarine, shortening and refined oils consumption increased by 400%.

In order to determine the scientific validity of the proposed link, it is first essential to examine the role of cholesterol.

Every cell membrane in our body contains cholesterol because cholesterol is what makes our cells waterproof – without cholesterol we could not have a different biochemistry on the inside and the outside of the cell. When cholesterol levels are not adequate, the cell membrane becomes leaky or porous; a situation the body interprets as an emergency, releasing a flood of corticoid hormones that work by taking cholesterol from one part of the body and transporting it to areas where it is lacking.

Thus, low cholesterol – whether due to an innate error of metabolism or induced by cholesterol-lowering diets and drugs – can be expected to disrupt the production of adrenal hormones and lead to blood sugar problems, edema, mineral deficiencies, chronic inflammation, difficulty in healing, allergies, asthma, reduced libido, infertility and various reproductive problems (1).

Other cholesterol facts:

· Cholesterol is the body’s repair substance: scar tissue contains high levels of cholesterol.

· The bile salts, required for the digestion of fat, are made of cholesterol. Those who suffer from low cholesterol often have trouble digesting fats.

· Cholesterol also functions as a powerful antioxidant, thus protecting us against cancer and aging.

· Cholesterol is vital to proper neurological function. About 17% of the human brain is composed of cholesterol.

So what is happening when the body is producing a high amount of cholesterol?

By going back to its function one could hypothesise that it is in a state of repair. From what? Ever heard of free-radicals? Try this on for size: "Once these naked, wildly destructive electrons [free radicals] are on the loose, they also eat holes in arteries that then attract nature's band-aid: cholesterol.” (2)

So what happens when we take statins (cholesterol-reducing drugs)? “Instead of seeing cholesterol as a messenger of free radical overload, or a call to arms to find the underlying problem and fix it, we kill the messenger (cholesterol) with drugs. Unfortunately, the cholesterol-lowering drugs, act by inhibiting the enzyme HMG COA reductase, which turns off the body's ability to make coenzyme Q10. This deficiency guarantees that the victim will go on to get high blood pressure, heart failure, cancer or other consequences.” (2)

Statins – the wonder drug?

Statins, the new “wonder drugs” are currently the top-selling medicines in the world with annual sales of more than US$ 19 billion. In the UK according to the NHS, doctors wrote 31 million prescriptions for statins in 2003, up from 1 million in 1995 at a cost of 7 billion pounds. (3)

That’s a lot of money being taken away from an already depleted health service to fund a drug that’s effectiveness in increasing life expectancy is questionable and has shown to cause serious side-effects.

Here are just a few more facts about statins:

“The November 2003 issue of Smart Money magazine reports on a 1999 study at St. Thomas’ Hospital in London (apparently unpublished), which found that 36 percent of patients on Lipitor’s highest dose reported side effects; even at the lowest dose, 10 percent reported side effects.” (1)

“Active people are much more likely to develop problems from statin use than those who are sedentary. In a study carried out in Austria, only six out of 22 athletes with familial hypercholesterolemia were able to endure statin treatment. The others discontinued treatment because of muscle pain.” (1)

Vioxx – another wonder drug

It has however been estimated that one such wonder drug, Vioxx, could have caused 27,785 heart attacks or deaths since it was approved for use in 1999. In September 2004 Vioxx was withdrawn due to health fears. Today, more than 4,200 lawsuits have been filed against Merck, the company responsible for the drug, and yet still Merck’s lawyers claim that "there is no reliable scientific evidence that shows Vioxx causes cardiac arrhythmia.” (4)

Why is cholesterol the enemy? Good question

Dr Paul J. Rosch gives a better understanding of how results can be manipulated in his article “More on the Preposterous Polypill Panacea”. Rosch examines the new Polypill (a pill combining a statin and various other drugs, claiming to reduce heart disease by 80%) and outlines the concepts of how researchers use the terms ‘relative risk-reduction’, ‘absolute risk-reduction’ and ‘number needed’ to treat to spin the truth. This brings to mind a comment made by Harry Truman: “If you can’t convince them, confuse them.” (5)

I Am Not in Favour of Taking Statins As a Treatment For High Cholesterol Problems

Think about it! Is a high cholesterol reading caused by a deficiency of statins in the body? Of course not! The idea is absurd. The high reading must have been caused in some other way. It is obviously more sensible to address the cause of the problem than to introduce another variable into the matter, especially when that new variable - in this case, statins - too often produces serious, painful health problems of its own, sometimes permanent. I suggest to you that the most likely cause of high cholesterol levels is fluid retention caused by sensitivity to salt, and that the high cholesterol, along with other more serious symptoms of heart problems, is easily and swiftly lowered by avoiding salt and salty food. Go on! - Try it! - Cut down on salt and salty food! You have will feel so much better!

A person not on statins is like a fish not riding a bike. By which I mean that statins are as much use to a person (with or without high cholesterol) as a bike is to a fish. What is the use of lowering or preventing high cholesterol - just one symptom of heart disease - and by no means the most serious symptom, if indeed it is serious or significant at all? Especially as statins are quite expensive and for far too many people also have painful, long-lasting side-effects.

If you want to improve your heart health overall, not just one symptom, and want to do it safely, without unpleasant, harmful side-effects, then you can do that simply, swiftly and very effectively without statins or other drugs. You just need to avoid salt and salty food. When I say that you 'just' need to do this, I must admit that this is not as easy as taking pills. You have to avoid most processed food, since most processed food has had a lot of salt added to it by the manufacturers. This means you will need to buy more fresh food and you will need to cook it yourself. But the health benefits that accrue from sodium reduction are very much worth the effort: lowered high cholesterol, lowered high blood pressure, reduced excess weight, more energy and vitality, greater mental alertness, improved sleep, reduced risk of heart attack, stroke, type 2 diabetes, most cancers, depression, dementia, etc.

Tips on How to Lower Cholesterol Levels

The moment one is advised by their doctor that they have high cholesterol usually leads to momentous levels of stress. The first question is usually how to lower the cholesterol levels as quickly as they can. Doctors sometimes may be quick to offer prescription drugs, which are never fun to take.

Frequent exercising and dietary changes are two vital changes to implement sooner rather than later. Yes, this may not sound as easy as simply popping a pill. But it is a basic requirement. Even your doctor will typically tell you so.

The next step is to add suitable natural cholesterol lowering agents to the daily diet. There are very healthy options to consider including natural supplements. You should always consult a doctor before taking supplements all the same for reasons we shall see next.

A person always needs to be aware of the contra-indications associated with these supplements. An example is artichoke extract that can reduce cholesterol but there are people who are prone to allergic reactions from this. Some people experience the discomfort of gas. Beta-sitosterol that is incorporated in margarine may lead to constipation, diarrhea, indigestion and nausea.

There are exceptions to the rule as many side effects are temporary and the most important aspect is lower the cholesterol levels, which may be in more natural supplementation. A doctor will be able to advise you accordingly.

One should also (always) let the doctor know even when taking herbal options to reduce blood fat as certain herbs may counteract or interact with clinical medicine.

Healthy lifestyle choices are usually the best solution to reach desired results. It is not to say that one should ignore what a doctor prescribed. Some cases do need medical intervention.

Seed husk, fish oil, ground flax-seed, garlic extract and green tea extract are natural alternatives to look for in products for lowering cholesterol levels. They are well-known for natural health management and to aid with lowering blood fats.

Reducing cholesterol levels is often not that hard if one is willing to make some lifestyle changes. Simple dietary changes together with medication whether conventional or herbal supplements, bring the positive changes in approximately fifty days. Considering how many years it takes the body to build up the undesired levels, fifty days is a very short time.

Exercise is a very important element in reducing these levels. Mere walking can aid in the exercise regime. It can help reduce LDL, the bad cholesterol, and increase HDL, the good cholesterol.

For those who do not exercise, brisk walking is a good start. A forty-five minute walk is all it takes after taking supper. One should also attempt to walk at least ten thousand steps per day. It can be monitored with a pedometer. These changes together with the correct cholesterol reducing agents can surely work wonders toward lowering cholesterol levels.

Are Cholesterol Reducing Supplements Safe For You?

Cholesterol reducing supplements are an alternative to cholesterol reducing diets and exercise programs. These tablets or capsules are packed with the necessary ingredients to help keep your blood cholesterol levels well within the normal range. These supplements, although considered to be miracle workers, don't work in a snap of the finger or they don't melt the cholesterol overnight. Like most diet and health programs, it requires that you meticulously follow the program on a daily basis, for several weeks before you could start to feel a difference in your body. But taking the supplements alone shouldn't make you feel like it's the only thing you should do. You should take the supplements and follow it up with exercise and a healthy diet, of course.

There are cholesterol reducing pills that are being advertised and sold in the markets. There are the natural or organic pills, and then there are those which require a written prescription from the doctor. The supplements that require a prescription are actually very effective to say the least. But the bad thing is, they work too well. Some of these medications work by inhibiting the production of cholesterol in the liver. Although having normal levels of cholesterol is the way to go, having cholesterol levels lower than usual could eventually lead to other complications. You don't want that.

Natural or organic cholesterol reducing supplements do not pose this kind of threat. In fact, there are pharmaceutical companies that conducted studies which presented that supplements that contain statin affect not only the production of cholesterol, but also of the coenzyme Q10. Even though statin-containing conventional supplements are found to be very effective, you need to provide yourself with coenzyme Q10 supplements as well. Trying to balance things out may now work for the better as it could result to adverse effects.

The natural supplements that help to reduce cholesterol have been around for a long time already and yes, these natural supplements do the work. They're also effective in lowering the cholesterol level of the body. These supplements contain RYR or red yeast rice, which have been found out to be effective. Yet, there are also other natural supplements which contain ingredients like vitamins C and E, calcium, garlic and even niacin. Natural supplements use organic ingredients to help lower your cholesterol to the normal limits. There are many supplements out there, but you have to make extra sure that the ones you are going to buy and take are indeed effective.

Supplements that contain plant sterols, policosanol, and rice bran oil have been recently found out to be good ingredients to tame your uncontrolled cholesterol. But out of the ingredients actively incorporated into these supplements, phytosterols have a lot of research and studies backing it up. Actually, experts have stated that supplements should have an ingredient that contains sterols.

Eating the right food and performing the right kind of exercise regimen, plus taking in cholesterol reducing supplements will reduce bad cholesterol levels, and put you in a healthier and better shape.

Easy Ways to Increase Dietary Fiber to Lower Cholesterol

If you want to naturally lower your cholesterol, it is imperative that you increase the amount of fiber in your diet particularly soluble fiber. Most of us eat way too few foods that contain soluble fiber. One of the main reasons for this is that we eat too few whole, plant-based foods. Most of us still have a very meat-centric diet. Meat contains no fiber and eating a fruit at breakfast with high fiber cold cereal, a meat-based sandwich with whole grain bread at lunch, and a salad at dinner isn't going to get you to your soluble fiber targets. You need to be eating a lot more plant-based foods than in the example just given if you want to see cholesterol-lowering results.

So what is soluble fiber and why is it so important in terms of naturally lowering your cholesterol? Soluble fiber is found in varying degrees in fruits, vegetables, and whole grains. Soluble fiber absorbs water and becomes a gelatinous substance in the body whereas insoluble fiber remains largely intact and helps food pass through the digestive tract. If we use a plum as an example, the flesh of the plum contains most of the soluble fiber and the skin of the plum contains most of the insoluble fiber. Soluble fiber has the ability to coat the intestinal lining so that cholesterol cannot be absorbed into the bloodstream. It also has the effect of slowing the liver's production of cholesterol. As a result, eating soluble fiber will lower LDL cholesterol and greatly improve your heart health.

A frequent excuse people give for not eating more fruits, vegetables, and whole grains is the fact that they are simply too busy. Below are 5 easy ways to incorporate more soluble fiber into your diet even if you are someone who is always on-the-go.

Munch on Carrots: Have on hand in your refrigerator fresh vegetables that don't spoil easily like carrots, cucumbers, and red peppers and serve them alongside a hummus sandwich using whole grain bread.

Always Have Frozen Fruit On Hand: Frozen fruits like strawberries, blueberries, and raspberries are particularly good for making a quick smoothie. Try adding them to low-fat, unsweetened yogurt too.

Eat Canned Beans: Have unsalted, canned beans in the closet so you can quickly open up a can and mix it with olive oil, balsamic vinegar, onion, celery, pinch of salt, and pepper and enjoy your bean dish over lettuce or a whole grain like whole grain brown rice for lunch or dinner.

Enjoy Easy-to-Prepare Whole Grains: Soak traditional (not instant) rolled oats in water along with dried fruit, seeds, and nuts and put it into the refrigerator overnight so that you can eat it cold or warmed along with a chopped apple the next morning for a fast breakfast.

Bake Sweet Potatoes in the Microwave: Have sweet potatoes or yams on hand which can be cooked in the microwave or oven and eaten at any time with a little cinnamon to satisfy a sweet craving.

Simple changes to your diet can make an enormous difference in your heart health. Wouldn't you prefer to naturally lower your cholesterol by eating tasty, easy-to-prepare foods like the ones mentioned above versus popping pills or undergoing surgery? Such a switch in your diet will also help you to naturally lower blood sugar, reduce blood pressure, and lose weight so that you have a good chance at a healthier, longer life. Choose one of the cholesterol-lowering suggestions above and be sure to implement it today!

Lowering Cholesterol Level Naturally - Our View On Lowering Cholesterol Naturally

Standard prescription drugs used today to control the cholesterol level in your bloodstream are pretty recent compared to herbs and other natural products that have been around a lot longer.

These herbs and natural products are usually derived from plants, trees and other sources. But, remember that you really have to be careful about what chemicals are contained in those herbal drugs because most of these have not been regulated by the Food and Drug Administration. Some herbal drugs, especially those manufactured in foreign countries have a certain statin drug inserted in the prescription but not listed in the ingredients section.

Because it might interfere with other medication or with your metabolism (if you have any specific problems) it is better if you consult at first your health care practitioner before you start any type of herbal drug. But still, there are many that actually list all the ingredients with the correct percentage and everything. Some natural-based products don't use the statin drug at all so the risk of impotency, damaged livers, and muscle aches are at minimum. You need to choose a supplement that can confirm its ingredients that are stated on the label - This is known as a certificate of analysis which will confirm the ingredients and the potency of them. Stay away from companies that do not provide this.

As an alternative to treating high cholesterol are many natural products. This can actually turn out to be optimal for patients who combine diet and exercise in their cholesterol lowering plan. Cholesterol level is reduced by natural products simply by dissolving fat in your bloodstream.

Types of effective natural products

Through research, the following list of natural products has been noted to reduce cholesterol level. Many of these drugs are not considered legitimate cholesterol-lowering agents even though natural products are regulated by the FDA. Before beginning any of the above, consult with your health care practitioner.

B Vitamins - besides niacin, prevents the damage of the LDL through oxidation

Carnitine - decreases cholesterol levels by increasing HDL levels

Chromium - increases HDL levels, and reduces LDL levels

Coenzyme Q10 - reduces total cholesterol serum levels

Fiber - can be obtained through fiber supplements or through foods such as whole grains and vegetables. It prevents cholesterol absorption into the bloodstream by binding the cholesterol in the small intestine

Garlic - has many cholesterol-lowering properties

Grape Seed Extract - totally reduces cholesterol serum levels

Pantothine - decreases total cholesterol levels by increasing HDL levels

Red yeast rice - Natural product not regulated by FDA - dosage varies from pill to pill

Vitamin C - slightly reduces cholesterol levels

Chinese Medicine For High Cholesterol - Effective Or Not?

Too much cholesterol in the blood (high blood cholesterol) can be a severe medical condition that can result to varying circumstances that can be harmful to the body. Individuals may not notice that they have high blood cholesterol concentration present in the blood because this condition is not capable of producing symptoms. There are greater chances of getting heart related diseases when there is high blood cholesterol. Just like conventional Western medicine practice, there is also available Chinese medicine for high blood cholesterol.

Excessive cholesterol in the blood accumulates in the arterial walls that may cause narrowing of the arteries. This condition can cause hardening of the arteries; medically termed as atherosclerosis. In addition to this, high cholesterol is also a precursor for hypertension. How to Choose the Right Fish Pills to Get the Maximum Health Benefits

Like any nutritional product on the market today there are good and bad ones and fish pills are no exception. Here is a guide to help you find the most effective and pure ones available. The market for fish pills is huge and this has led to many poor quality oils that will offer little or no benefits at all.

The first thing to look at is the relative omega 3 fatty acid levels as these give you the health benefits. The two main types are called DHA and EPA and it is DHA that is responsible for the majority of the health rewards. I would recommend you get at least 270mg of DHA in each 1000mg capsule. You will find the average amount is only around 100mg at best, so check the website or label carefully. To get the benefits these amazing natural oils provide like lower cholesterol, lowering of high blood pressure, prevention of heart attacks and strokes, greatly enhanced brain health and prevention of cancers, you need lots of DHA.

Many people complain of fishy burps and regular repeating and this is very common. The reason for this is stale oil disguised with flavouring or enteric coatings. These are common tricks used to cover up the taste but will offer little benefits and cause the fishy burps. You can check your fish pills by cutting them open and you may be surprised to learn that there should only be a faint ocean aroma and nothing else or the oil is rancid. To ensure all the toxins like mercury and arsenic have been removed, a molecularly distilled oil is best. This process separates out the contaminants from the oil and concentrates it for more omega 3.

At the moment, the best fish is the New Zealand Hoki as it has very little contamination due to the fact it lives in one of the most pristine oceans on earth. This species is also very high naturally in DHA fats.

Regarding price, bad fish oil supplements are not necessarily cheaper and most are actually much more expensive, some over $40 for a month's supply while a good one can be had for less than $20 a month.

If you follow these tips, you should be able to select the right fish pills with confidence and can soon be reaping the many health rewards with none of the associated risks. If you would like to learn more about the high quality DHA omega 3 supplements I personally take, visit my website below.

Lowering Cholesterol Count - Proven Treatments For High Cholesterol

If you are among the thousands of Americans each day who learn that they have high cholesterol, then undoubtedly your doctor has made you aware of the importance of lowering cholesterol count and supporting healthy cholesterol levels.

Most likely he has recommended statin medication to make this happen. I am always amazed by how little doctors tell their patients about the best natural ways to lower high cholesterol. Yes, it is true that it is not as easy as just taking a pill, but natural cholesterol reduction is much healthier, safer and just as effective.

Does it surprise you when you hear that taking a natural approach to reducing high cholesterol levels is just as effective as medication? It surprised me too when I first learned that a diet to lower cholesterol has been shown to bring down cholesterol levels effectively.

But when it comes right down to it, this should not be surprising. The foods that lower cholesterol are the same foods that have been a part of healthy diets for centuries. You see, the most effective foods to lower cholesterol count include vegetables, whole grains and nuts.

All of these foods contain high amounts of fiber and plant sterols. The combination of fiber and sterols actually attacks cholesterol in two ways.

Sterols are very similar in molecular composition to cholesterol and are thus able to block the absorption of cholesterol into the bloodstream. Fiber on the other hand, actually eliminates cholesterol from the body before it has a chance to be absorbed.

I encourage you to fight the urge to treat your high cholesterol by taking a pill. Instead, the natural approach discussed here has side effects that include increased energy levels, and improved immune system and better overall health.

On my website I discuss effective natural ways to lower cholesterol. By visiting it, you will learn about foods and diets that have been proven effective to support healthy cholesterol readings.

The Best Herbs And Nutrients To Lower Cholesterol Naturally

Many different cholesterol lowering herbs and nutrients can help you lower your "bad" cholesterol naturally. In order to prevent the development of the various forms of heart disease that affects about 61 million Americans, it is very important to maintain low cholesterol levels in your body.

Think that with small intakes of natural supplements you can save a lifetime of taking pills and even avoiding heart surgery. You must know by now that about 75 percent of the body's cholesterol is produced by the liver, the rest being extracted from what you eat. So, a diet in this case is very helpful if you want to lower those levels. But, while a low-your-cholesterol diet is helpful, it's still necessary to maintain the cholesterol levels within the body itself.

But what are the best herbs that help you lower your cholesterol in a natural way? In this article we have prepared for you a list of the best herbs that will help you:

Green Tea - Even though it has shown that is has many therapeutic benefits, green tea has shown to also lower the amount of LDL (or bad cholesterol) in your bloodstream, and it also aids in the prevention of blood vessel constriction.

Ginger - Recent studies in the New England Medical Journals have shown that ginger helps dramatically reduce the cholesterol in your body. Often used in the Chinese cuisine, this powerful herb also helps lower blood pressure and thins the blood.

Guggulipid - Guggulipid is known to be an ancient Indian herb that has been shown very good results with lowering cholesterol and triglyceride levels. Actually, it has shown better reducing effects on the LDL cholesterol levels than modern drugs in several trials.

Turmeric - Turmeric contains curcumin, and is a very powerful herb used in curry dishes. It helps lower the LDL levels but it also improves blood circulation.

Olive leaf - Studies have shown that the olive leaf extract, native to the Mediterranean region, shows amazing improvements on the cholesterol levels, as well as facilitates blood flow and lowers blood pressure.

Also, you might be interested in some important nutrients to lower your cholesterol naturally:

Policosanol is extracted from sugar cane wax and it has been widely studied trough time. It helps increase the good cholesterol levels, while lowering the LDL levels.

Chromium Plyniconate - Also known as the organic version of chromium, it helps lower triglycerides and LDL levels while raising the HDL cholesterol levels.

Niacin or Vitamin B3 - It has shown to help reduce total cholesterol levels in high dosages.

Why a Natural Weight Loss Pill Aims to Lower Your Cholesterol

When people turn to natural weight loss pills to shed those extra pounds they're looking to lose weight. And they measure their success on the number of pounds they shed. But one of their goals in losing weight is to be healthier. But there are other factors in being healthy. The one most talked about these days is cholesterol. So how important is it?

What Is Cholesterol?

All the cells in our body are surrounded by cholesterol. That's why it's important. It's everywhere. Cholesterol is a lipid that is required for the body to operate. Its job is to protect our nerve fibres and make sure that nerve signals are making their way through the body properly. Cholesterol also makes hormones that transport certain signals around the body.

So, on the one hand, it's good for the body. But, on the other hand, too much of it in your body can be bad and lead to heart disease. So it's important to bring it down.

What's A Safe Level?

Unfortunately, it's not as simple as weighing yourself. Knowing what your cholesterol level is not enough to tell if you have too much. The only way to tell if you're at risk of heart disease is to consult your doctor because you need to find out what your Lipoprotein level is.

The average person should have around 4.0mmol/l but if you have a low density lipoprotein count, then you should have about 2.0mmol/l. But there is no average person and the only way to know what your ideal level is, is to visit the doctor.

How To Reduce Cholesterol

Unfortunately cholesterol levels are on the rise. And there is a direct relationship between those high levels and the increased incidences of heart disease. So it's important to think about reducing your own levels.

There are a few ways to lower it. Eating healthy food is a very good way of reducing your LDL level. Healthy food protects your body against the harmful effects of cholesterol.

Other ways to lower the level include: stopping smoking, losing weight and exercising to raise your HDL cholesterol level (which is a good thing). If these methods don't work over a period of around six months, you should consult your doctor. Medication can be obtained that helps.

Conclusion

It's important to monitor your cholesterol levels. High levels are largely a result of modern lifestyles and poor diets. But if you take action to keep your levels low and get checked out by the doctor you're on your way to a healthier body.

Do You Really Need A Pill to Lower Your Cholesterol Count?

Why has our society today come to believe that we need a pill for every ill?

Is it because we just simply accept what the medical profession says to us? Or is it because we are just too lazy to take responsibility for the choices we make? By implication we are actually saying I'll just live my life the way I want to, eat what I want to, drink what I want and if anything goes wrong I'll just go to the doctors and he will just give me a pill to cure it?

In my opinion the problem is that most people in society today just believe what their doctor tells them without ever questioning whether or not they are right.

Our society has been brought up to believe that if a doctor says it then it must be true. If the doctor talks about cholesterol numbers, cholesterol count, or cholesterol hdl ldl being too high then Joe Public just expects he is going to get a pill and he will take it in most cases without questioning.

To be honest the problem doesn't just lie with the public not questioning the status quo, part of the problem is he has to a large extent been deceived into thinking certain things are good for him when in fact they are harmful.

Take for example margarine, it was hailed as a miracle invention that would help to lower your cholesterol count or your cholesterol numbers when in actual fact the Trans-fats or hydrogenated oils contained in margarine have been doing an immense amount of damage to the arteries of the users since the products first came out.

Now it has been said that 'what you don't know won't kill you' but that is not true in this case. The hydrogenated oils help to form the plaque that close up the arteries and causes a heart attack. The emphasis of the medical profession is to lower the cholesterol count which is really just treating the symptoms. What should be emphasized is we should be getting rid of the plaque buildup in the arteries.

Now the general public didn't know this until recently and what you don't know you can't really be blamed for. However the evidence today is overwhelming and so each person should be considering the implications of their own health and start to change their lifestyles.

You can indeed lower your cholesterol without ever needing to take a pill and at the same time you are accomplishing this you can be dissolving the plaque buildup in your arteries. Click on the link below and visit the website for the vitamin supplements that combined with a healthy lifestyle can reverse arterial damage.

Heart disease is the major killer today in the western world. Congestive heart failure, heart attack, heart attack symptoms, and heart disease, are primarily avoidable but you need to know what to do and then you need to do it.

Routes to Take High Cholesterol Treatment

There are two ways forms of high cholesterol treatment that people can pursue to live a longer and healthier life. One of these is by using therapeutic drugs to lower the levels and the other is by making certain lifestyle changes. Each has its positives and negatives attached to them, but both can lead a person back down the path of living a full and healthier life.

The major problem with high cholesterol is it is related to being the basis for cardiovascular dysfunction in the human body. High cholesterol is a known cause for arteries becoming clogged due to plaque buildup. The buildup of this plaque material is caused by the hardening of blood vessels, which become stuck on the walls of veins and arteries. When they become clogged, heart attack and heart failure become greater risk factors and can lead to a person's death.

Therapeutic drug therapy is one of the ways in which people can lower their cholesterol quickly. Lipitor and Crestor are just a few of the examples of the variety of drugs available on the market that reduce high cholesterol levels. However, though it may be easy to just take medication, these pills have certain negative side effects on the body that can dissuade a person from considering them.

Besides taking a variety of pills, another way to lower high cholesterol is simply by altering the way someone eats. Cutting out high sodium concentrated foods like salt and canned good can help but a better way is to eat plenty of fish. Fish oil is a natural elixir and helps cut out the bad low density lipoproteins that cause these problems.

Other kinds of dietary changes may be necessary if a person has a family history of heart conditions. Foods that are high in fiber, assorted nuts like almonds and walnuts, and olive oil can also have positive effects on the body's circulation system. Just like the fish oil, these foods all lower the bad cholesterol called LDL's and retains the good cholesterol HDL's, high density lipoproteins.

Lowering cholesterol revolves around two types of high cholesterol treatment. These treatments are drug therapy and lifestyle change. The drug therapy methods are easier because a person can still eat what they want, however, they will incur certain side effects. Lifestyle change may be harder for people who can't resist delicious foods but is an overall great decision because the body will naturally heal itself. People must weigh the options and decide which method is truly right for them.

Red Yeast Rice - Cholesterol Lowering Supplement

In recent months, red yeast rice has received a lot of attention from the medical community because there is hope that it may be a great alternative to prescription cholesterol medication. I will attempt to offer some background about the substance, what it is, and finally how it can help you.

What is Red Yeast Rice?

By reading the name you can understand fully that it is a rice that is covered in a red fungus. Like the yeast you use to make bread rise or to make beer, it naturally occurs in nature with rice. As spelled out for you in the name, it is a red substance that coats some kinds of rice. In China, medical experts have found ancient writings about this miracle substance that recounted its amazing effects in improving stomach problems, improved the circulatory system, and spline function.

This news of this amazing substance has been taken very seriously because it can be an alternative to prescription cholesterol drugs. Many people know that these types of drugs carry with them the risk for extremely severe muscle conditions that lead to death.

What are the benefits?

Studies at the University of Pennsylvania concluded that the substance successful reduced the levels of bad cholesterol (or ldl) in the blood. The blind study was conducted by offering half of the group 2 tablets of 600 mg red yeast rice to one group and placebo (sugar pills) tot eh other group with instructions for improving diet, exercise, and relaxation.

Statistically, the study proved that the group who received red yeast rice showed reduced levels of bad cholesterol. The group saw no decrease in good cholesterol or important blood enzymes (as is common with cholesterol drugs) The study proved that this amazing substance can definitely improve cholesterol numbers and help people who are unable to take prescription drugs.

How Does Red Yeast Rice Work?

Red yeast rice is a product of fermentation by monascus purpureus a kind of fungus that grows on rice. The fermentation process creates a substance called lovastatin. This substance is exactly the same as in the drugs that conventional medicine offers to patients. Even more amazing is that it works without the side effects or the high price of those other drugs.

Lovastatin works by preventing the liver from producing more cholesterol to send to the rest of your body. There is debate as to whether or not red yeast rice is a drug or a supplement because of this naturally occurring substance, lovastatin.

Where Do I Find It?

There are many supplements that contain red yeast rice. Unfortunately, not all of them are effective. Some do not actually contain the much needed lovastatin. If the supplement version does not contain this ingredient it is almost completely worthless.

Dozens of supplements with red yeast rice have been reviewed and the top 3 have been displayed: http://lowercholesterolreview.com

The characteristics of these 3 supplements that make them the best are their ability to reduce cholesterol, their price, and their overall customer feedback level.

You too can finally have lower cholesterol. I hope this article inspired you to take action today so you don't have to suffer the consequences of high cholesterol tomorrow.

Natural Cholesterol Remedies Explained

As a long time sufferer of high cholesterol, if I had a dollar for all of the so called natural cholesterol remedies that people recommended, and in some cases I tried without success, I would be a very wealthy woman!

Most people mean well when you are battling something as serious as high cholesterol, and especially those who know you well, and know that family members and friends died prematurely from heart disease.

And to be honest, when you are not in a position to take prescription cholesterol lowering medications, because of their adverse side effects, and you are terrified of dying young yourself, you will try everything and anything to survive.

Some of the natural cholesterol remedies out there are as follows:

Garlic Capsules

Garlic is considered wonderful for the heart. However, with regard to lowering cholesterol, whilst studies show that garlic can lower cholesterol by a tiny amount, there is no evidence that it can sustain this over a long period of time.

Guggul Supplements

Guggul is a herbal medicine used to control obesity and is considered by some as one of the most effective natural cholesterol remedies. It boasts a wide therapeutic range from the common cold, skin problems, reduced arthritis pain, etc., to name but a few. Almost sounds like a miracle pill! Results of studies carried out have conflicting results regarding the cholesterol lowering capabilities of guggul.

Arjuna Supplements

Arjuna is a tree grown in India and similar climatic countries. The bark is used to create this supplement and boasts a wide range of healing and health beneficial properties, including lowering cholesterol, improved cardiac function and improved liver function. Mixed feedback from people on actual results achieved and concerns over use compared to other natural cholesterol remedies.

Niacin Capsules

Niacin is a B vitamin found in meat, dairy and fish. It has been proven to lower triglycerides and LDL and raise HDL. However, it has also been proved that taking Niacin over a long period of time results in adverse side effects, one of which is liver damage.

I could provide an endless list of all the natural cholesterol remedies out there. Some are trying to be everything and anything to all ailments. Some even claim to prevent heart attacks. The problem I found with the majority of them, was that, they seemed to add lowering cholesterol as an addendum. They claim to deal with everything from lowering blood pressure, increasing cardiac function, preventing colds, reducing menstrual pain, reducing arthritis pains, weight management, etc.

I mean, how on earth can you have any faith in a supplement that claims to fix everything that could possibly be wrong with you!

Of all the natural cholesterol remedies out there, I did find one that focussed purely on lowering cholesterol, without any side effects. No outrageous claims, simple facts, detailed list of nutrients, simple explanations, just what you need.

But before I would advise anyone to simply start taking natural cholesterol remedies, I would suggest reading through the entire research first and be aware of how cholesterol works and why it is so important to lower cholesterol naturally.

Discover Natural Ways to Lower Cholesterol - Save Money While Building a Healthier Heart

For many individuals, when they learned that they need to lower their cholesterol, they really are uncertain what the best thing to do is. Natural ways to lower cholesterol are far better than using cholesterol medication. After a very short period of time of changing your eating habits and getting a little more exercise, you will feel better and have more energy.

You see, the best way to lower cholesterol is free. There are no pills to buy. No unnecessary trips to the doctor. And you can actually save money by spending less on red meat than you had previously been doing. That's because the most effective ways of lowering cholesterol involves reducing the amount of saturated fat in your diet and substantially increasing the amounts of high fiber vegetables, fruits and nuts.

Fiber is important because it efficiently removes cholesterol from your body. As a matter fact, cholesterol actually attaches itself to fiber in the digestive system so that it is eliminated. However, it is equally important to remove saturated fats from your diet.

Now don't get me wrong. You can still have the occasional beef, but it needs to be lean cuts such as sirloin pork tenderloin, and you should consume it on a less regular basis.

I have found that a great substitute for ground beef is ground turkey when seasoned properly. As a matter of fact it is more enjoyable than ground beef because it lacks all the grease found in hamburger.

You will also want to take a serious look at the amount of carbohydrates in your diet. Empty carbs such as white rice and potatoes can quickly increase cholesterol levels. However, the opposite is also true. By eliminating these types of foods, and replacing them with high fiber foods such as brown rice or wild rice, triglyceride levels drop rapidly.

If you really want to find natural ways to lower cholesterol diet is the place to begin. I invite you to visit my website where you can learn about other steps you can take to lower your cholesterol and improve your overall health.

Keep these things in mind next time as you go to the grocery store and focus on some cholesterol lowering foods that will actually make you healthier in the long run. That's one thing medication cannot do for you.

Van Crawford has been studying health and nutrition for over 10 years as he has researched ways to lower his own cholesterol levels. Visit his website now for more information on powerful ways to improve your health and lower your cholesterol: Tips For Lowering Cholesterol

Lowering LDL Cholesterol the Natural Way

Let's start with the obvious.

DIET

If you start out with a healthy diet, which consists mostly of lean protein sources, vegetables that grow above the ground, and fruit, that will help. In addition to a basically healthy diet, to control cholesterol most experts counsel avoiding eating red meat and animal fat in general. For example, if you eat the breast of birds such as chickens and turkeys instead of the legs and thighs, you will eat less animal fat. You can also avoid animal fat by not eating the skin.

Now, if your cholesterol problems are diet based, eating a healthy diet will probably solve the problem. If not, then you might need to look into some sort of supplement to help you control your cholesterol levels.

I assume if you're reading this article, you've already ruled out statin drugs because they are carcinogenic and often have side effects such as muscle pain and weakness, nausea, insomnia, fatigue, slurred speech, balance problems, memory loss, liver problems, sexual dysfunction, personality changes and irritability.

Fortunately, there are less destructive and expensive alternatives available.

NIACIN

Niacin has been known to lower cholesterol since the 1950s. Of particular interest is a comparative study between Lovastatin (a popular statin drug) and Niacin. 136 patients with high cholesterol were randomly assigned either Lovastatin or Niacin over a 26 week period. Although the Lovastatin initial lowered LDL cholesterol more quickly than the Niacin, by the end of the study, there was not a whole lot of difference, with Lovastatin lowering LDL by 32% and Niacin lowering LDL by 23%.

But where Niacin really shines is in increasing HDL (the good cholesterol) and lowering Lp(a), a lipoprotein which is highly predictive of heart disease. By the end of the study, Niacin had increased HDL by 33% and lowered Lp(a) by 35%, compared to 7% and 0% for Lovastatin, respectively.

However, there are some problems with Niacin. It causes unpleasant flushing and can impair blood sugar control in diabetics. Worse, if using sustained-release Niacin, almost half of users develop liver toxicity, although it should be noted that if using regular Niacin, there is little danger of liver toxicity.

Fortunately, there is a form of niacin called inositol hexaniacinate, which has been used in Europe for many years to control cholesterol levels.

INOSITOL HEXANIACINATE

Inositol hexaniacinate's side effects are minimal and it works even better than regular niacin, according to a study comparing the effect of niacin and inositol hexaniacinate on hyperlipidemic Buscat rabbits (The role of nicotinic acid and inositol hexaniacinate as anticholesterolemic and antilipemic agents. Nutr Reports Int 1983;28:899-911). The inositol hexaniacinate caused a 79.5 % reduction in cholesterol while niacin caused a 74.9% reduction. Better yet, inositol hexaniacinate caused a 63.2% triglyceride reduction, compared to a 30.9% reduction for regular niacin.

This same correlation was found by Welsh and Ede (Inositol hexanicotinate for improved nicotinic acid therapy, Int Record Med 1961;174:9-15).

If you plan to take inositol hexaniacinate to lower your cholesterol, experts recommend that you start out with 500 mg, 3 times a day with meals for 2 weeks. If you tolerate that okay, they suggest upping the dosage to 1000 mg, 3 times a day with meals. Although inositol hexaniacinate appears to have little in the way of side effects, it might still be prudent to have your doctor test your cholesterol levels and liver enzymes with a frequency of every 3 months, at the very least.

Like regular niacin, inositol hexaniacinate is not recommended for use by diabetics, because it can interfere with blood sugar metabolism.

Given inositol hexaniacinate's effectiveness, that's probably a good choice to try first. However, if you cannot tolerate inositol hexaniacinate, there are more options you can try.

PANTETHINE

Pantethine, a stable form of vitamin B5, inhibits the production of cholesterol by the liver. In a one-year clinical trial conducted with 24 patients, pantethine was shown to decrease LDL (the bad cholesterol) by 21% and increase HDL (the good cholesterol) by 23%, with virtually no toxicity (Effectiveness of long-term treatment with pantethine in patients with dyslipidemia, Clin Ther. 1986;8(5):537-45).

The dosage of pantethine usually recommended for cholesterol management by experts is 300 mg, 3 times a day.

VITAMIN C

It has been shown that the higher the level of vitamin C in the blood, the lower the total cholesterol count and the higher the HDL (the good cholesterol) is (High plasma vitamin C associated with high plasma HDL- and HDL2 cholesterol, American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, Vol 60, 100-105).

In particular, for every increase of .5 mg/dl in vitamin C plasma content, there was a corresponding increase in HDL of 2.1 mg/dl in men and 14.9 mg/dl in women.

Many experts recommend taking 2000 mg of vitamin C a day as general nutritional insurance. That should be plenty for cholesterol control purposes as well.

GARLIC

Believe it or not, garlic has a substantial effect on cholesterol levels, but you would need between 1 to 4 cloves of fresh garlic a day to achieve a significant therapeutic result. Fortunately, the compounds in garlic responsible for its therapeutic benefit can be isolated in pill form.

However, in order to be effective, the supplement must supply the equivalent of 4,000 mg of fresh garlic, not aged garlic. Aged garlic has been proven not to be as effective (A double-blind crossover study in moderately hypercholesterolemic men that compared the effect of aged garlic extract and placebo administration on blood lipids, Am J Clin Nutr. 1996 Dec;64(6):866-70).

On the other hand, a study done at the Clinical Research Center in New Orleans, Louisiana showed that treatment with standardized fresh garlic of 900 mg a day resulted in a drop of 11% in LDL (the bad cholesterol) (Can garlic reduce levels of serum lipids? A controlled clinical study, Am J Med. 1993 Jun;94(6):632-5).

So, if you wanted similar results, you could either take 900 mg a day of a standardized fresh garlic supplement or 1 to 4 cloves or fresh garlic a day.

GUGULIPID

Gugulipid is extracted from the mukul myrrh tree, which is native to India. It appears to get it's cholesterol lowering effects from increasing the liver's metabolism of LDL (the bad cholesterol).

In a double blind study of 125 patients comparing the effect of gugulipid with the cholesterol lowering drug clofibrate over a period of 12 weeks, the gugulipid group lowered their LDL (the bad cholesterol) by 11% and the clofibrate group by 10% (Clinical trials with gugulipid. A new hypolipidaemic agent, J Assoc Physicians India. 1989 May;37(5):323-8). While HDL (the good cholesterol) was unchanged in the clofibrate group, the gugulipid group typically increased HDL levels by between 16%-20%.

With purified gugulipid preparations, there are no significant side effects. Experts recommend a standardized extract of gugulipid containing 25 mg of guggulsterone per 500 mg tablet, 3 times a day for elevated cholesterol.

Lowering Cholesterol Through Smart Food Choices

For the last several years scientists have been comparing natural cholesterol lowering foods that contain sterols with pharmaceutical counterparts--statins. The results have repeatedly shown that, in over 140 different studies, including certain cholesterol lowering foods will give you as good a chance of lowering your cholesterol as pharmaceutical statins.

Statins, including Lipitor, Zocor and Crestor, work by inhibiting an enzyme along the pathway of cholesterol synthesis. The disruption of the pathway prohibits cholesterol from forming, resulting in less cholesterol in the bloodstream. Some studies show statins may also help the body reabsorb cholesterol plaques that have formed on artery walls.

In comparison, plant sterols and stenols (also called phytosterols) are plant extracts that work in a similar fashion, but naturally. Phytosterols work by blocking the absorption of cholesterol in the intestine. This has the effect of lowering bad cholesterol (LDL cholesterol) but not negatively affecting good cholesterol (HDL) levels. Plant sterols/stenols are found in vegetables, nuts, grains and fruit. It is recommended that those wishing to lower cholesterol levels consume at least 0.8 grams of phytosterols daily. There are some simple changes you can make in your diet to incorporate cholesterol-lowering foods.

A simple morning routine: Add oats and oat bran to your diet. Eating natural oats for breakfast is a great way to get sufficient fiber intake as well as adding natural cholesterol lowering foods to your diet. Stay away from sugar packed boxed versions and stick to natural slow or fast cooking oats. Add fresh fruit and nuts to amp up the heartiness and nutritional value. Use ground oatmeal in soups, stews and as a substitute for flour. The American Dietetic Association suggests swapping one-third of the flour in recipes with quick or old-fashioned oats.

Snack on nuts all day: Almonds are a great source of monounsaturated fats, as well as the additional benefits of having fiber, protein and antioxidant qualities. One study involving the effects of almond consumption and cholesterol showed a decrease of bad LDL cholesterol by 4.4% after three months of eating a handful of almonds and a marked decrease of 9.4% when two handfuls were consumed daily. Walnuts are high in omega-3 fatty acids, which are responsible for lowering triglycerides in the bloodstream. Most nuts are high in calories, so if you're watching your weight, consider eating no more than 2-3 servings of nuts daily.

Consuming dark, leafy vegetables such as spinach, kale and even avocados can also aid in lowering cholesterol. Omega 3s have been associated with slowing plaque build-up in arteries. Some foods high in omega-3s are fatty fishes such as tuna and salmon are are efficient at lowering bad cholesterol.

Many companies are adding phytosterols to their products to make them healthier. Mars, Inc. has produced a chocolate bar that has added sterols and maintains the antioxidant qualities of the dark chocolate. This tasty fortified chocolate bar is called CocoaVia. Another company, Promise Activ Supershots contains 2 grams of plant sterol per 3oz drink.

In order to get the most benefit from phytosterols, make sure to eat a balanced diet. One that is high in leafy greens, nuts, grains and oats and fruits. Get plenty of exercise on a regular basis, and consider including a phytosterol supplement either in the pill, chocolate or juice/yogurt formula.

An Effective Lowering Cholesterol Diet - What You Should Look For?

Finding a truly effective lowering cholesterol diet is something that requires focus and effort. You cannot just wake up one morning and decide that you're going to lower your cholesterol levels. You must have a plan.

The place to begin is with an understanding of what caused your high cholesterol in the first place and what it will take to reverse it. Many people do have a genetic predisposition to high cholesterol. This is something you will want to discuss with your doctor. However, that is not to say that medication is the only way to bring your readings back down to an acceptable range.

Whether you have a genetic predisposition to high cholesterol or not, a natural approach will leave you feeling healthier and having much more energy than simply taking some pills. The vast majority of individuals can substantially lower their cholesterol levels with a lowering cholesterol diet.

The primary cause of high cholesterol in America is the raising cholesterol diet that most of us eat. A diet that is rich in saturated fats and low in soluble fiber will cause anyone's cholesterol readings to increase little by little so that after many years we find ourselves facing this problem.

There are two primary qualities of a lowering cholesterol diet: 1) high-fiber content, and 2) low saturated fat content.

High-Fiber Diet

You can find many sample diets for lowering cholesterol on the Internet. Just make sure they emphasize high fiber content. The most tried-and-true method of lowering cholesterol is through consuming increased amounts of fiber. Fiber actually accomplishes two things in the body. It stimulates the liver into absorbing more cholesterol and cholesterol attaches itself to fiber so that it is eliminated from the body.

The best sources of fiber that you will find are vegetables, whole grains and nuts. This type of diet when combined with cholesterol lowering supplements that contain plant sterols are the most efficient way of bringing down those stubborn triglycerides and cholesterol levels.

Low-Fat Diet

The lowering cholesterol diet that you choose also needs to be low in saturated fats. However, don't make the mistake of cutting out all fats. Fats are essential to mental and physical health. Eliminate as much red meat, cheeses and other high-fat dairy products as possible.

The types of fats you want to include in a low-fat diet comes from high-fiber sources such as nuts. While not high in fiber, fish and fish oil supplements are very helpful, especially where triglycerides are concerned. Try to use olive oil for cooking as much as possible.

Try a Low Cholesterol Diet Before You Consider Pills

Have you checked your cholestrol level recently? If not, you should consider doing it. Too many people currently have high levels of cholesterol. Are you among those? If your answer is 'yes', then a low cholesterol diet, like for example a mediteranean diet might be good for you. Actually, if your cholesterol level is to high, you have two major options.

Adjusting your life-style

Take pills that lower your cholestrol

If you don't have extremly high cholestrol level which calls for immediate action, you should try the first option before you even consider to start taking pills.

Unfortunately some of these cholesterol lowering pills have a few disadvantages: Statin drugs like Lipitor and Baycol might cause muscle damage and some doctors have even linked these pills to deaths. This isn't strange at all, seeing that the heart is a muscle. This is probably the reason some of these drugs have been pulled from the market in some countries. Like all medications the benefits have to be weighed with the risks. So if your cholesterol level is too high, I would recommend that you start with adjusting your life style. If this doesn't lower your cholesterol level in a significant way, then you can consider pills to lower your cholestrol level.

What do I mean with "adjusting life-style"?

Did you know that oatmeal contributes to lowering your cholesterol level? It most certainly does. Therfore you should eat more of this.

Olive oil consist of unsaturated fat and is very much used in the mediterranean countries. Why not fry your food in this instead of butter? If you're using this as your main fat source regularly, your cholesterol level should decrease. Stay away from commercially produced and saturated fats.

A great supplement is cod liver oil. It contains essential Omega 3 oils, which is rare in most weight loss diets. Take it once a day. If you are like me and don't like the taste, do as I do and take it in capsules form. It supplies you with 'good' cholesterol. Other benefits are an improved look and feel of your skin, increased energy, improved memory and even pain relief.

Eat vitamin A and vitamin E daily as they also have proven to lower cholesterol level.

Start up with some moderate exercise. It is sufficient to take a thirty minutes to one hour walk daily. This will also contribute to your cholesterol level lowering.

To summarize: If your cholesterol level is too high, start up eating foods that contain substances that have been around for many years and have been tested and tried by generations, instead of starting out with pills that might have health damaging side effects. Add some moderate workout and you'll be well on your way to a normal cholesterol level. If this doesn't work, then consider medicine. I wish you a good luck!

Diet to Lower Cholesterol Level - Proven Cholesterol Lowering Techniques For You to Use

Most people don't realize that a diet to lower cholesterol level has been shown to be more effective than cholesterol medication for most individuals. The problem is that our doctors are the primary source of information regarding our health.

If you have high cholesterol, most likely you first heard about it from your doctor's office and there's a good chance that he suggested statin drugs as your best option. I am shocked by how little specific dietary guidance medical professionals provide their patients for reducing high cholesterol.

It has been proven in clinical studies and through the experience of thousands of individuals that a cholesterol lowering diet can provide just as good and sometimes better results than what most individuals obtained through the use of medication. And when you consider the fact that lowering high cholesterol through diet increases your health and longevity, while statin medication can severely damage your health, it makes most sense to leave these medications as a last resort.

If you're really serious about lowering high cholesterol then you will need to cut back on the amounts of saturated fat in your diet. It is best to completely eliminate high-fat foods such as beef and pork. Saturated fat actually increases LDL cholesterol levels and triglycerides much quicker than foods that are high in cholesterol.

However, your diet to lower cholesterol level will not be effective unless it contains many cholesterol lowering foods which include most vegetables, fruit and nuts. All these foods (yes, nuts included) are cholesterol fighting foods that also provided additional energy and improve your overall health immensely.

Unfortunately, taking a pill to lower your cholesterol is easier, but this type of cholesterol lowering diet will provide benefits for you for the years to come. I invite you to visit my website where I discuss your many different options for reducing high cholesterol levels without resorting to medication.

Natural Cholesterol Lowering Remedies - You Really Are What You Eat

The good news is that natural cholesterol lowering remedies are free. The bad news is that they can also be difficult to implement. This is because fairly radical lifestyle changes are involved that none of us find easy to achieve.

Forget about the story the pharmaceutical companies are trying to sell you. Bad cholesterol is not caused by a lack of some chemical in your body. It is caused by lifestyle choices such as eating too much of the wrong foods. Or, not exercising sensibly. An intelligent person such as yourself knows that to be true. As they say, there's no such thing as a free lunch. Right? No amount of chemicals will fix the problem unless you attend to these issues as well.

Come on now, lets be honest with each other. You just had the thought run through your mind; here we go again, he's going to tell me I have to start eating all those no flavor cardboard foods. Well, not so fast my friend.

Changing your diet doesn't mean that you have to give up on your favorite foods. You just have to change the proportion that they make up of your total food intake, and pay attention to how they are prepared. This can save you money as well as, wait for it; actually improve their flavors. Yes it's true, you might find that you enjoy them even more.

Next time you feel like having a few fatty lamb chops fried in their own drippings, and of course, we got to have a big old pile of french frys on the side, think again. That's about the worst meal you can have, but it doesn't mean you have to starve.

How about we cut the fat off of one chop, grill it on a wire rack so the fat drains off, and serve it with mashed potato and a green salad. Now that wasn't to bad was it? You'll even find the true flavors come through better. You also won't have heartburn or a bad night to follow.

OK, now for the exercising part. No, you don't have to run the the gym every day. My how we jump to conclusions. How about after your healthy meal, you did make it healthy didn't you, don't just lay around on the couch with the remote. Instead take the dog or just yourself for a gentle walk around the neighborhood. Enjoy feeling your food and emotions settle into an easy going mode. Admit to yourself that a lifestyle change is not unpleasant and not impossible either.

Above everything else, make sure you enjoy your new lifestyle. If you find yourself not looking forward to the natural cholesterol lowering remedies you are following, think again. What's the alternative, living on chemical pills the rest of your life? I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that's not for you, you wouldn't be reading this article if it was. Anyway didn't your doctor tell you, even if those drugs do lower your cholesterol, if you ever stop taking them it will go right back up again. You deserve better.

Don't just eat things because they are good for you. Eat them because you also like them. The same applies to exercise. Do it because you enjoy doing it. There are enough exercise routines around to ensure something to suit everyone.

While there may not be a boat-load of Natural Cholesterol Lowering Remedies, there are many more than you may realize. Why not give yourself a chance at a chemical free life.

Take Control of Your Diet For Lower Cholesterol

Are you friends with your mirror or do you look the other way when you pass by? Do you promise yourself that this will be the week you start an exercise program, start eating low cholesterol foods and pay attention to a healthy eating guide? Do you promise yourself to begin a diet only to put it off yet again because you are secretly afraid of the self denial and the risk of failure?

While this hesitation is a natural reaction, these human bodies of ours have been in constant development for more than a few hundred thousand years and have everything needed to be healthy and fit if you give it even a little bit of help.

The truth is that getting in shape, eating healthy, and losing weight are all pretty simple things to do. You just need to make the decision to do something! Even walking one flight of stairs instead of riding the elevator or parking at the back of the lot is a start towards a healthy lifestyle.

Once you begin, you are going to be pleasantly surprised how quickly your body will respond when you begin to follow a healthy diet of low cholesterol foods and treat yourself to even a moderate exercise program. The damage that took years of neglect and unhealthy living to accumulate will begin to be repaired in just a matter of a few months.

Please note that I said "begin to be repaired". Despite the zillions of ads everywhere claiming "miraculous results", there is no magic pill, formula, or program that will take the weight off, lower bad cholesterol and restore your health in just a few weeks. At best these "miracle" products will only help you lose water weight and, at worst, they can many health related problems. Recovering good health will take some time, and it will take a continuing commitment from you.

Despite the claims of the ads, the real, and only, "secret" to losing weight and controlling cholesterol is to burn off more calories than you eat each day. Ideally, this is accomplished by taking in fewer calories through your diet and burning more calories because of increased physical activity. It will also help to plan your diet to get more of your calories from a balanced diet with less red meat, saturated fats, dairy, and sweets and more fruits, vegetables, and whole grains.

American Heart Association Cholesterol Lowering Information For Women

According to the American Heart Association, estrogen, the female sex hormone, has the tendency to raise high-density lipoprotein (hdl) or good cholesterol. Naturally then, women have higher hdl than men. Isn't this wonderful news to all the women out there?

Studies show that the production of estrogen is highest during the childbearing years. This means that a woman's hdl level during this period of time is at its peak.. That is why women are less likely to develop heart disease before they reach menopausal age.

However, that does not mean that women should be complacent and not watch their health and diet before their menopause. After all, according to the American Heart Association, cardiovascular disease is still the leading cause of death for women in the US.

The American Heart Association mentioned that postmenopausal hormone therapy (PHT) may benefit some women with osteoporosis. However, trials have shown that it does not reduce nor eliminate the possibility of stroke and heart problems. Also, women with a personal or family history of breast cancer are advised not to go for PHT.

It is suggested that women go for their first cholesterol screening at the age of 20. A test may also be done at a younger age for those who start taking birth control pills before turning 20. If the test shows that they have high cholesterol levels, they should go for a test every year until their cholesterol levels become normal. After that, women are generally recommended to have their tests taken at intervals of five years.

Cholesterol levels of women are measured the same way as that for men. A lipid profile is taken. This is a series of simple blood tests that show the distribution, types, and amount of various lipids (fats) found in the bloodstream. These lipids include cholesterol and triglycerides.

Lipoproteins are the ones that carry cholesterol in the blood. The two kinds of lipoproteins are the high-density lipoproteins (hdl) or good cholesterol and low-density lipoproteins (ldl or bad cholesterol).

Hdl is considered good because it eliminates excess cholesterol from the blood as well as from the arterial walls. Excess cholesterol causes plaque build-up in the arteries which may eventually lead to a stroke or a heart attack. Ldl is considered bad because it sticks to the arterial walls and contributes to the plaque.

The American Heart Association recommends ldl cholesterol lowering drug for most women with heart disease. Other than that she must get adequate exercise, eat balanced and wholesome meals and not smoke.

However cholesterol supplements are much better than prescription drugs because they have less side effects compared to statin.

Moreover there is a wide range of cholesterol supplements. There is even a natural lowering cholesterol product called Bios Life that combines all four of the known approaches to lowering harmful cholesterol as follows:

1. Blocks cholesterol from being re-absorbed in the gastrointestinal tract

2. Prevents cholesterol which comes from the food from being absorbed

3. Reduces the cholesterol produced by the liver

4. Enhances enzymatic breakdown and removal of bad cholesterol.

Do you know anyone who might like to know about a product like that?
